Housing Information

Finding a place to live in San Francisco can be difficult. If you are in need of a place to stay, we recommend that you talk to the Student Advisor of the program. He/She can inform you of the various options on housing and how to find an appropriate place to live. CCSF does not provide any on-campus housing.

Homestay

This type of housing gives students the opportunity to observe and participate in an American household while staying with a family. As part of the household, students are usually included in family social activities, and may be expected to perform simple chores such as helping at mealtime, keeping their room clean, and doing their laundry. Students can learn more about American culture and are more easily immersed in life in the United States.

Document language:

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into English. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

In order to apply for a student visa to study in the USA, you will need to submit several documents. These documents include:

Given the current travel restrictions from the Trump Administration, all International students should keep important documents such as a valid passport, I-94 and I-20 with them while traveling to and within the United States.

Below are some of the documents required for entry and re-entry into the USA for F-1 students:

A valid passport

A valid F-1 visa for re-entry purposes

A signed form I-20 endorsed for travel on the second page by a DSO in the office of international programs.

Students on OPT should also take:

Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card

Job offer or proof employment

NB: It is required that all F-1 students submit a complete “Travel Request Form” and a copy of their flight itinerary for each international trip regardless of current travel signature validity.

Visa Renewal

F-1 Students who no longer hold a valid F-1 visa will be required to renew their visa outside the United States before they will be allowed re-entry.  Documents required for this and the processing time will vary. Advisable to do this during long vacations like summer breaks.

Some documentation that you should prepare for your visa renewal include but are not limited to:

Verification of Enrollment letter from our office

    A copy of your transcript

An updated Educational Plan from an ISCP counselor

    Updated financial support information

This is the rule for students studying abroad…

Yes, you can work but about 90% of countries don’t give student work permits… However, students can work informally and part-time… But all governments and university do not expect students to depend on their possible employment to pay for their tuition and accommodation…

In fact, it not ever possible for students to study full-time each semester and work as well and yet be able to earn enough for their tuition fees and accommodation… Not possible…

They might be able to depend on their possible work for living expense but never for tuition and accommodation…

They can’t study and still earn enough for those kinds of stuff (unless they have their own businesses).

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service has authorized City College of San Francisco under federal regulations to enroll qualified non-immigrant students. Each semester the College admits international students without reference to a quota. City College of San Francisco is fully accredited by ACCJC, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges. The Institute for International Students, and intensive English program is also supported by AAIEP, the American Association of Intensive English Programs.

City College of San Francisco (CCSF), International Student Programs may offer you conditional admission if you are an international student who requires English language instruction before you can begin your studies at the college level. If you are conditionally admitted, you will attend the Intensive English Program (IEP) to study English in an intensive environment. The IEP is located at our Ocean Campus, Cloud Hall.

Students will first attend the IEP at CCSF and improve their English. Then they will take the Institutional TOEFL Test at CCSF while studying in the IEP.  If they get a TOEFL score of 483, they will be admitted to the Academic Program at CCSF for the following semester.
