Language of Teaching

Most of the courses are taught in Russian with a few others being taught in English. Majority of people in the country speak Russian but there are a few people who understand and speak fluent English. Courses taught in Russian require students to enroll in the preparatory school to learn the language.

Scanned Copy of stamped and signed official High School leaving certificate or equivalent recognized by the Russian Federation and duly legalized, if applicable (if you do not yet have your high school certificate at the time of application, you can submit an official high school transcript of records for last 3 years).

Successful passing of 2 program-specific entrance examinations (online or on-campus).

Students applying for Bachelor’s programmes are not required to possess international certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL – they take entrance exams in 2 subjects: one of them is English (for English-taught programmes) and another one depends on the programme they choose (it can be Mathematics, History or Social Studies).

Master’s applicants are usually required to provide the results of English proficiency exams for most English-taught programmes. There are also a few programmes that do not require students whose previous medium of instruction was English to have such certificates. It’s important to check the requirements for a particular programme.
 

 

Foundation/Preparatory School / Course / Program

Applicants who don’t have English proficiency results are given a simple (street conversation level) English test. Those who fail are given English course for one or two semesters before they start the main courses. Also, applicants who have deficiency course (not enough of the prerequisite courses) are also giving such courses before they start their main program.

Even if you are from a 1st world (advanced country), doing a year or a semester abroad is still very advantageous. 

 

Undergraduates (based on Entrance Exam Results)

HSE offers the following types of discounts for non-Russian nationals applying to HSE Bachelors and Specialist programmes in the academic year 2019-2020:

Scholarship Eligibility: Foreign Student at Undergraduate level

Scholarship Application: There is no separate application. Students seeking admission into the university are considered for the scholarship. So just apply for your admission and we will take care of the rest.

Scholarship Coverage: This scholarship only affects your tuition fees. You are still responsible for all your other study abroad costs.

No scholarships are available for Bachelor and Specialist programmes that are offered on a fee-paying basis only (with no state-funded places), including double-degree programmes with the University of London and Kyung Hee University.

 

Undergraduate Scholarship Requirements

Good academic performance implies that throughout your studies at your degree programme, you meet all the following criteria:

  1. you are not subject to disciplinary action in the form of reprimand;
  2. upon completion of each and any interim assessment (before retakes) you have:
  3. no more than two grades lower than 6 (on a 10-point scale);
  4. no grades below 4 on a 10-point scale;
  5. no missed assessments for no valid reason.

* Please note that a foreign national may be granted only one scholarship at a time from those listed in the table. Should a foreign national be eligible for more than one scholarship from the table, he/she may select only one scholarship at his/her own discretion.

This provision doesn’t apply to scholarships granted for early conclusion and payment of tuition fee agreement, in this case, the scholarship is granted for one year only.

Visa and Admission

The first stage to obtain a student visa to Russia is to acquire an invitation letter. It is also referred to as ‘visa support.’ After you secure admission in an educational institute in Russia, a letter of Invitation will be issued to you from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its Regional Office.

In case Regional Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not situated in the region where you plan to study in, an invitation letter must be issued by the University, Institute or College where you have enrolled for your course of study.

 

Do You Need a Visa?

Travel without Visa — If you are a citizen of Russia or live in a country that can travel to Russia without visa, then you can travel to Russia without a visa. For more information and further clarification, please contact us.

Travel with Visa — If you are a non-Russian citizen, you will need to obtain a visa at the Russian Embassy in your home country before your arrival in the country.

 

Education Requirements for Student Visa

Student visa to study in Russia is simple process. You apply for a student visa from the closest Russian embassy to you.

  • Once you have your admission/invitation letter
  • and have provided documents requested by the embassy.

There is no reason to reject your student visa application. In all our dealings, our students have never been rejected visa. But we have heard of a few students (not our own) who were rejected because they didn’t get the documents needed. But when they reapplied, it was granted them.

Document language:

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into English. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

To be eligible for a Russian student visa you must fulfill the following conditions:

  • You must have a valid and signed passport that has at least two blank pages
  • Your passport must have a validity that extends the duration of the visa you are applying for by at least 6 months
  • You must have a copy of your Russian visa application form, completed and signed by you
  • You must have the original letter of invitation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its Regional Office or the University or educational institute where you have enrolled for your course
  • You must provide certificates of your current diploma or degree or educational qualification
  • You must provide proof of tuition fee payment to the University or College or Institute where you plan to study
  • You must provide an original HIV (AIDS) Test Certificate showing a negative result. The test must be a recent one and must not have been conducted more than three months ago
  • You must display your intention to leave Russia at the end of your authorized stay

 

Health Insurance Requirement

International students who study in Russia will need to obtain a doctor’s certificate confirming that they can freely undertake study in the field of their choice.

You will also need to be insured for the duration of your stay in Russia; this is part of your tuition fees.

This is the rule for students studying abroad…

Yes, you can work but about 90% of countries don’t give student work permits… However, students can work informally and part-time… But all governments and university do not expect students to depend on their possible employment to pay for their tuition and accommodation…

In fact, it not ever possible for students to study full-time each semester and work as well and yet be able to earn enough for their tuition fees and accommodation… Not possible…

They might be able to depend on their possible work for living expense but never for tuition and accommodation…

They can’t study and still earn enough for those kinds of stuff (unless they have their own businesses).
