If the student strictly follows the step-by-step instructions given by the school’s admissions team, the visa application will be smooth and fast.

Do You Need a Visa?

Travel without Visa — In order to study in Bulgaria, you will need to legalize your stay in the country. If you are a citizen of  Bulgaria or live in a country that can travel to Bulgaria without visa, then travel without visa to Bulgaria applies to you.

Travel with Visa — If you are a not a Bulgarian citizen, you will need to obtain a visa at the Bulgarian consulate or Embassy in your home country or a country near you. Once you have arrived in Bulgaria, you will need to apply and obtain a residence permit before your visa expires in order to prolong your stay.

Education Requirements for Student Visa

Student visa to come study in Bulgaria is easy to obtain. You apply for Bulgaria student visa from the closest embassy or consulate to you.

  • Once you have your admission letter
  • confirmation letter from university (proof of payment of first tuition fees)
  • and has provided documents requested by the embassy.

There is no reason to reject your student visa application. In all our dealings, our students have never been rejected visa. But we have heard of a few students (not our own) who were rejected because they didn’t get the documents needed. But when they reapplied, it was granted them.

Visa Requirements & Documents

Document language:

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into English. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

Required Documents

  • Obtain a document certifying that the student has the right to continue their education at a higher school (university) in the country where they obtained their high school diploma from;
  • Obtain medical (health) certificate, issued within 1 month prior to the date of signing their detailed application form;
  • Copy of High school (secondary education) diploma + transcript of all marks;

Note: Additional documents listed in this step must be translated, legalized and sent via e-mail and post to the school

Submitting all documents to the Ministry of Education and receiving a certificate by the Ministry of Education. Upon the student’s request, the school sends all original documents back to the student.

Registering and Attending a Visa Interview

Upon receiving all documents, the student registers for and attends an interview at the closest Bulgarian embassy;

Note: The application for issuing a long-stay visa is submitted only in the diplomatic and consular missions at the permanent place of residence of the applicant or the missions accredited in the state of the applicant’s permanent residence.

Health Insurance Requirement

International students who study in Bulgaria will need to obtain a doctor’s certificate confirming that they can freely undertake study in the field of their choice.

After submitting your application here, an admission counselor will guide you through the whole admission process.

6. Work & Study...

6. Work & Study…

This is the rule for students studying abroad…

Yes, you can work but about 90% of countries don’t give student work permits… However, students can work informally and part-time… But all governments and university do not expect students to depend on their possible employment to pay for their tuition and accommodation…

In fact, it not ever possible for students to study full-time each semester and work as well and yet be able to earn enough for their tuition fees and accommodation… Not possible…

They might be able to depend on their possible work for living expense but never for tuition and accommodation…

They can’t study and still earn enough for those kinds of stuff (unless they have their own businesses).

Since you are already here, there is no better time than now. Your great study abroad experience awaits you.

In only eight years, the Bulgarian public and government were convinced that the Institute in Veliko Tarnovo had the makings of a modern university.

On 13 October 1971, the Higher Institute of Education was transformed into a university and on 14 October 1971 at an official ceremony the then first state leader Todor Zhivkov read the State Council’s decree and handed the rector, Prof. Zhelyo Avdzhiev, the symbolic key of the new Bulgarian university.

This memorable event intentionally coincided with the international symposium marking the 600th anniversary of the Tarnovo Literary School of which the University is a rightful and worthy heir.

Since you are already here, there is no better time than now. Your great study abroad experience awaits you.
