Language of Teaching

Majority of the courses are taught in good English. Any courses taught in any language apart from English  are marked on the degree programs or tuition fees tabs. Languages on the street are mainly English.

 

Application / Enrollment Fees

This university has an application/enrollment fee of 150 EUR.

This university has NO per-semester registration fee.

Spring/February Intake: starts – 26th August, ends – 1st December (best to apply before October)

Submit the documents of the secondary education and the documents of the higher level education (if applying for masters or doctoral studies)

Must have sufficient knowledge of the language in which the studies are held

Have to submit IELTS certificate

Submit legalized certificate of the secondary education with a transcript and/or a certificate of higher education with a transcript

Copy of passport (all pages)

General Cost, Budget & Living Expenses

Studying abroad is Latvia is way cheaper than studying in USA, UK, France, Germany, etc. However, it is still studying abroad and it more expensive than studying in your home country. When deciding to study abroad, there are many costs students must consider as they make their budgets. These mainly include:

  • Tuition fees

For some countries, these costs may prove to be very expensive. However, the cost of studying in Latvia is very affordable. For international students, tuition fees differ depending on the degree type a student wants to study (e.g. Undergraduate, Masters, etc). Although studying abroad away from your home country is usually not cheap, Liepaja University has made it very affordable for international students to complete their tertiary education to obtain their degree diploma and certificates.

Scholarship Amount: No scholarship offered. The yearly tuition fees are already very low and affordable. The accommodation is cheap as well.

Cost of Housing

The Average cost of living in Liepaja ranges from €345-€400 per month.

Rent is 36 EUR per month for a room (if in the room live 2 and more persons),

50 EUR (2 persons) and 90 EUR (1 person). 

Private housing range from EUR 145 – 290 per month.

 

Liepaja University offers to international students live in the Student Hostel. Due to high demand, students should give the Foreign Affairs Department ample notice of their intention to live in student dormitories. International students are usually housed in shared rooms (2-3 persons) with a common kitchen, shower, and toilets. Linen, blankets, pillows, and kitchen utensils are provided. 

Liepaja University Student Hostels’ rooms are furnished, a fridge is in each room, Free Wifi and laundry.                

If student does not wish to stay at a dormitory, private housing arrangements should be made before arriving in Latvia.

Visa and Admission

For admission, an international candidate needs to have submitted copies of education documents, passport and legalized translation of all these documents during the application and admission process.

As foreigners would expect, it will also be required by the immigration department that travelers and international students have in their possession n Entry Visa before flying to Latvia, along with an original invitation and original education documents.

The university will send an official invitation to study at the consular office of the Republic of Latvia at the place of residence of a foreign applicant (for visa countries) and a letter to inform the applicant (for visa-free countries).

Do You Need a Visa?

Travel without Visa — In order to study in Malaysia, you will need to legalize your stay in the territory of the Turkish Republic of Latvia. If you are a citizen of a Latvia or live in a country that can travel to Latvia without visa, then travel without visa to Latvia applies to you. Simply provide your Visa Approval Letter at the point of entry. For more information and further clarification, please contact us.

Travel with Visa — If you are a non-Latvian citizen, you will need to obtain a visa at a consulate in your home country before your arrival in Latvia. Once you have arrived in Latvia, you will need to apply and obtain a residence permit before your visa expires in order to prolong your stay.

Education Requirements for Student Visa

Student visa to come study in Latvia is easy to obtain. You apply for a student visa from the closest embassy to you.

  • Once you have your admission letter
  • confirmation letter from university (proof of payment of first tuition fees)
  • and has provided documents requested by the embassy.

There is no reason to reject your student visa application. In all our dealings, our students have never been rejected visa. But we have heard of a few students (not our own) who were rejected because they didn’t get the documents needed. But when they reapplied, it was granted them.

Document language:

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into English. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

In order to apply for a student visa to study in Latvia, you will need to submit several documents. These documents include:

legalized certificate of the secondary education with a transcript and/or a certificate of higher level education with a transcript;

a copy of passport (all pages);

photo cards (3×4 cm);

a document on the change of a given name and surname (if necessary);

a payment document certifying that the registration fee is paid in the amount of 150,- euro* to the account of LiepU (registration fee is not refunded).

Health Insurance Requirement

International students will need to obtain a doctor’s certificate confirming that they can freely undertake study in the field of their choice.

You will also need to be insured for the duration of your stay in Latvia; this is part of your tuition fees.

This is the rule for students studying abroad…

Yes, you can work but about 90% of countries don’t give student work permits… However, students can work informally and part-time… But all governments and university do not expect students to depend on their possible employment to pay for their tuition and accommodation…

In fact, it not ever possible for students to study full-time each semester and work as well and yet be able to earn enough for their tuition fees and accommodation… Not possible…

They might be able to depend on their possible work for living expense but never for tuition and accommodation…

They can’t study and still earn enough for those kinds of stuff (unless they have their own businesses).
